Lika festival 2009 With great pleasure we inform you that this year's congregational summer camp in Lička Jesenica will take place from 04.08. till 09.08.2009.
Main features of traditional summer festival in Lika are: ![]() * it’s completely free * attendance at mangala-arati is obligatory, therefore no late evening programs * service and program attendance are as well obligatory for all devotees We stress the importance of sadhana, philosophy, spirit of cooperation, good association and one of the main attributes of the festival is prasadam, both in quality and quantity. Accommodation is modest, but we try our best to manage that everyone gets facilities according to their needs. Matajis and children are in houses, prabhus are in tents and cottages. Capacity is limited to 100-130 devotees, so you must announce yourself. Lectures and seminars are on English with Croatian translation. Things you may found useful to have with you: tent, sleeping bag, matting, flash light, personal hygiene kit, gamchas, vaisnava clothes and some warm cloth as morning hours are quite chilly. For inner hygiene be sure to take your japa mala, otherwise if you don't have it already, we'll gladly provide one for you. For devotees who want to donate something for this festival we would like to point out that help and donations are voluntary. Our experience is that some of the guests on the festival can hardly finance bare necessities, so these kind of people need support. In majority that referrers to the students and young people who are not financially independent. It is also our experience that there are persons who have money but from various reasons don't have trust or desire to donate. This may be due to lack of enthusiasm or confidence. Therefore we keep our accounts in details, open to all of our donators, thus making all balances overseen by donators themselves. Balances of income and expenditure for past years may be seen here (reports are written in Croatian and access to them require registration). Project itself costs around 3000 Euros, and last years we had very good response. Expenses were partially covered by organizers themselves and this year will be the same. This is a very nice chance to serve devotees and we appeal to all of you who have money to engage in this service. In any case, any of your goods and contributions are very welcome and we appreciate very much your energy and time spend in maintaining this festival. Our primary goal is to engage as many people as possible in serving devotees and therefore we humbly invite all of you to join in this sacred mission. Thank you! Highlights from years before Purnacandra Goswami:The acaryas explain that although the personalities are all real and factual, and although the pastime, the history is actually factual and real, that still all the personalities present or have some simbolic representation. Like Devaki represents bhakti, because Krishna appears from bhakti. Krishna appears from Devaki's womb. Krishna can come from bhakti: bhaktya mam abhijanati ... One can only know Krishna thru bhakti (...) The six sons that were killed before Baladeva appeared represent the evil things that harras the devotee: lust, anger, etc. And these things must be cleared away right before the Lord will appear. (09.08.2006) The devotee must become fearful of falling again in material illusion. The devotee must be afraid of maya. And Prabhupada said: "My disciples are nice, but they are not afraid enough of maya." Because maya is very powerful, and if maya can grab you, then you're finished. (09.08.2006) You can't distribute a book, or you can not bring someone to Krishna conscioussness unless you have some empowerment by the Lord. Some of that Baladev shakti has to be in you. And it just grows and grows as you advance. (09.08.2006) Manidhara Prabhu: Srila Prabhupada originally very intelligently wanted to create a "mini ISKCON" in India. By training a crew of bengali devotees who each single one would be the expert in some art ... Preaching art also, even mridanga, cooking, everything, all these departments. And then, with that crew he was planning to arrive in west. So that western people can immediately see: "Oh, that's how a vaisnava looks like." (10.08.2006) And the whole system, that's actually where Kali started, he attacked the brahmana community. Because when the head is crazy, all the parts of the body go crazy automatically. (09.08.2006) It is stated in Bhagavatam that in Kali yuga you'll be considered intelectual just because you can nicely put some words together. People think: "Oh, this sounds very nice." Of course, it doesn't make any sense, but people don't care for this very much. They say: "This is so genious what he says, nobody can even understand." The scientists even invented their own language, so know, so people can not understand anything. And they think: "This is so scientific, I can not understand one word." So Prabhupada came and he torn down all the hypocrites. (09.08.2006)Bhakti Vikasa Swami: The tendency to be attracted to maya seems almost sponteous in the conditioned soul. So that has to be regulated by rules and regulations. (09.08.2006) In between the superlative level of bhakti, and the level of envy of Krishna, is the level of understanding Krishna's opulences and thus engaging in His devotional service. (10.08.2006) It's a world of violence. Because everyone is envious and everyone is exploiting everyone else. We come here in Lika to see the beautiful nature, but a beautiful nature is all the: jivo jivasya jivanam ... All different living beings are struggling, even the plants are fighting with each other for space and light. So, it's a violent world. (11.08.2006) Komentari (0)
